ACLU sues over Clearwater shop's fish mural - Bay News 9

ACLU sues over Clearwater shop's fish mural - Bay News 9: "PINELLAS COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is taking a Clearwater man's side after the city fined him because of a mural on the side of his store.

Herb Quintero owns The Complete Angler on North Fort Harrison Avenue, a tackle and bait shop.

'(It) was an old fruit stand that I've remodeled into what you see today,' he said.

The city calls the mural a sign and fined Quintero nearly $700. He was also ordered to take down the mural. So, Quintero covered it up with a First Amendment banner.

'Obviously we're trying to make a statement by protesting the fact they're trying to make us remove the fish mural,' he said. 'And I figured that's the best way to convey to the public that we don't feel that's right.'

The business has now been cited for the banner and in a few days they'll face fines up to $500 a day."
