White House, Petraeus warn burning of Koran could endanger troops - Washington Times

White House, Petraeus warn burning of Koran could endanger troops - Washington Times: "A Florida pastor's plans to burn Korans to mark the anniversary of 9/11 this week could endanger the lives of U.S. troops, warns U.S. ArmyGen. David H. Petraeus, commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan.

Gen. Petraeus said he is 'very concerned' about possible repercussions of the pastor's actions.

'It could endanger troops and it could endanger the overall effort in Afghanistan. It is precisely the kind of action the Taliban uses and could cause significant problems. Not just here, but everywhere in the world we are engaged with the Islamic community,' Gen. Petraeus said in a statement.

The Rev. Terry Jones, pastor of the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Fla., says his actions are intended to send 'a clear message to the radical element of Islam.'

Mr. Jones has written a book titled 'Islam Is of the Devil.'"
