White House Clarifies That Obama Disclosed Knowing About Operation Fast and Furious on CNN Espanol in March | CNSnews.com: (CNSNews.com) – President Barack Obama said he heard about the botched federal gunrunning operation Fast and Furious “on the news” and related that point in a March 22 interview on CNN Espanol. At the White House today, Press Secretary Jay Carney, when asked about when Obama learned of the operation, first said it was during a press conference in El Salvador but later clarified to CNSNews.com that it was on the CNN program, which had aired that same day.
In the March 22 interview, Obama said: “There have been problems, you know. I heard on the news about this story that fast and furious, where allegedly guns were being run into Mexico and ATF knew about it but didn't apprehend those who had sent it. Eric Holder has -- the attorney general has been very clear that he knew nothing about this. We had assigned an IG, inspector general, to investigate it.”
