Ron Paul: 'Flawed' U.S. policy to blame for 9/11 - Spokane Conservative | Examiner.com: On Sunday, Texas Congressman and GOP Presidential candidate Ron Paul said "flawed" U.S. foreign policy is the reason al Qaeda terrorists killed nearly 3,000 Americans on Sept 11, 2001.
"Just remember that immediately after 9/11, we removed the base in Saudi Arabia, our policies definitely had an influence," Paul told CBS's Bob Schieffer.
"To argue the case they want to do us harm because we're free and prosperous I think is a very dangerous notion, because it's not true," he added.
Schieffer asked Paul if that was the same as blaming America for the attacks.
"If you have a flawed policy, that may have influenced it… that's a far cry from blaming America," he responded.
"So what you're saying is that it was the government's fault," Schieffer said, pressing the Congressman.
