Addressing One of the Casualties of the 111th Congress » Publications » Family Security Matters: "If you were to list all of the things that fell victim to the tyranny of Progressive leadership in the 111th Congress of the United States, chief on the list, in addition to ethics and constitutional process, is honesty. While it is true that honesty in politics – throughout the history of man – has always been wanting, it can be said with a high degree of confidence that not since the Wilson Administration has there been such a crisis in honesty in the United States government.

There is a tremendous difference between honesty in politics and honesty in government. We the People, to our own discredit, have become tolerant of dishonesty in the political process."

Constitutionalism - Charles Krauthammer - National Review Online

Constitutionalism - Charles Krauthammer - National Review Online: "For decades, Democrats and Republicans fought over who owns the American flag. Now, they’re fighting over who owns the Constitution.

The flag debates began during the Vietnam era when leftist radicals made the fatal error of burning it. For decades since, non-suicidal liberals have tried to undo the damage. Demeaningly, and somewhat unfairly, they are forever having to prove their fealty to the flag.

Amazingly, though, some still couldn’t get it quite right. During the last presidential campaign, candidate Barack Obama, when asked why he was not wearing a flag pin, answered that it represented “a substitute” for “true patriotism.” Bad move. Months later, Obama quietly beat a retreat and returned to wearing the flag on his lapel. He does so still."

Ex-CIA officer charged with leak to Times reporter - Yahoo! News: "WASHINGTON – A former CIA officer has been indicted on charges of disclosing national security secrets after being accused of leaking classified information about Iran to a New York Times reporter.

Federal prosecutors charged Jeffrey Sterling with 10 counts related to improperly keeping and disclosing national security information.

The indictment did not say specifically what was leaked but, from the dates and other details, it was clear that the case centered on leaks to Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist James Risen for his 2006 book, 'State of War.' The book revealed details about the CIA's covert spy war with Iran."

For Those Who Do Not Know What “Certify” Means (updated)

For those who claim that Obama’s Birth Certificate has been revealed to the world, from Bill O”Reilly through to even such local luminaries as David Farrar, here is something that will hopefully break through the massively thick foundation of ignorance that supports such a perception. There is an online document. Computer generated. Few have seen the actual paper document. Some young dumb Obamabots somewhere looked at it and said it was valid. In fact, there is nothing to substantiate this document and even though it is titled a “certification, ” this raises the question, what does it certify and who certified it? Closer inspection gives rise to a further question- Does it really “certify” anything at all?

Here are three illustrations.

The lower is an original Short Form Certification of Live Birth. (Patricia DeCosta) Above that and in the middle, is the document Obama’s friends say is his birth certificate. Uppermost is the actual Long Form Birth Certificate of a real but unidentified Hawaiian citizen. Look hard now. Can you see the difference? Why of course you can. The actual LFBC has three signatures (bottom left) that CERTIFY the birth. Patricia DeCosta’s Short Form Certification of Live Birth has a stamp with the signature of the Registrar and the date issued.

The Obama document has NO SIGNATURES and therefore NOTHING IS CERTIFIED. No human being has validated or CERTIFIED with his/her signature that Obama was born in Hawaii. The document is worthless.

Pelosi's Final Tall Tale as Speaker - David Limbaugh - Townhall Conservative

Pelosi's Final Tall Tale as Speaker - David Limbaugh - Townhall Conservative:

"Can you imagine the sheer audacity of outgoing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi sermonizing that repealing Obamacare would do 'very serious violence to the national debt and deficit'? This is the woman whose four-year tenure as speaker saw the national debt explode from $8.67 trillion to $14.01 trillion.

She's the lady who boasted, 'Deficit reduction has been a high priority for us. It is our mantra, pay-as-you-go.' Such is the state of Pelosi's credibility that even 19 of her Democratic colleagues voted against her for speaker.

When it comes to a wide spectrum of issues, I'm not sure which planet Pelosi and her ilk of liberals inhabit, but the Obamacare fiasco takes their otherworldliness to another level altogether -- and that's being charitable because it assumes they're innocently unaware of how wrong they are."

Welcome Aboard - Oliver North - Townhall Conservative

Welcome Aboard - Oliver North - Townhall Conservative: "Congratulations, Speaker Boehner, to you and the members of your new majority in the U.S. House of Representatives. The gracious humility of your acceptance remarks was a vivid contrast to your predecessor's ill-mannered comments as she handed over the speaker's gavel. She clearly does not intend to be held accountable for the disastrous performance of her party in last November's elections.

Though former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's long-winded rudeness is an indication of the challenges you and other responsible members of the 112th Congress will face in the days ahead, your arrival on Capitol Hill is already having a positive effect in Washington. Shortly before you became speaker of the House, the Obama administration announced it is withdrawing its new regulation requiring 'end-of-life counseling' for Medicare recipients. In short, there will be no 'death panels.' Then, just hours after you gaveled the new House to order, President Barack Obama's confrontational spokesman, Robert Gibbs, announced his resignation as White House press secretary. Now the hard work begins."

Is Obama Keeping ACORN Comrade Patrick Gaspard in the White House? | NewsReal Blog

Is Obama Keeping ACORN Comrade Patrick Gaspard in the White House? | NewsReal Blog: "As Obama administration apparatchiks stampede the doors so they can become rich as lobbyists, no one seems to be talking about someone who is critical in the Obama White House: political director Patrick Gaspard. Is he staying or is he leaving? So far it’s not clear.

Here’s why it’s important: while Obama is now shedding some of the familiar radical faces in his outfit and bringing in alleged “centrists” such as Chicagoland’s William Daley as White House chief of staff, the extremist power behind the throne, the Big Labor puppet Gaspard, remains in Karl Rove’s former job.

The incredibly low-profile Gaspard, formerly executive vice president for political and legislative affairs for the gargantuan 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, is a radical’s radical. He is reportedly a master of Saul Alinsky‘s tactics of agitation, just like Obama."

Now that Issa is being elevated to the chair of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, the congressman will have the power to shine a light on a host of matters and policies that many on the Right find to be of questionable value at best and downright destructive at worst. Preliminary reports indicate that Issa’s ambitious agenda will cover a host of areas that badly need attention. Yet, even if Issa and his committee investigate such issues, the ultimate question remains: will this finally be the Congress with the will and the courage to do something when problems are identified, or will our representatives shy away from making tough, unpopular decisions once again?"

The Housing Hole Deepens | FrontPage Magazine

The Housing Hole Deepens | FrontPage Magazine: "The gravy train at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac keeps pouring out millions in pay to the top executives running the disgraced tax-funded mortgage companies no matter how poorly they perform. As CNNMoney.com reported Dec. 31, Fannie (FNMA) chief executive officer Michael Williams and Freddie (FMCC) CEO Charles Haldeman each stand to rake in $6 million as indicated by company filings that outline pay guidelines, plus deferred compensation of an unknown amount.

These are rewards for a period when the federally supported companies suffered $28 billion in losses through three quarters of 2010 as well as running up the bill at the U.S. Treasury of $150 billion. How proud all Americans must be, especially those on whose homes have been foreclosed. And to think these appointed “saviors” of the housing market now run the biggest lenders of risky mortgages that were largely the cause of the housing bubble and the ensuing collapse of the American economy."

“Failure to raise the limit would precipitate a default by the United States. Default would effectively impose a significant and long-lasting tax on all Americans and all American businesses and could lead to the loss of millions of American jobs,” Geithner said.

“Even a very short-term or limited default would have catastrophic economic consequences that would last for decades. Failure to increase the limit would be deeply irresponsible,” he wrote."

Take CBO Report With a Grain of Salt: Obamacare Repeal Would Not Increase Deficits | The Foundry: Conservative Policy News.: "Next week, the House of Representatives will vote on H.R. 2, a measure to repeal Obamacare in its entirety. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) today released a report stating that repealing the health care law would increase the deficit by $145 billion between 2012 and 2019.

This report is based on the findings of the CBO’s March 2010 report that predicted that Obamacare would reduce the deficit. CBO does respectable work, but their analysts have their hands tied by assumptions they are required to make. The reality is that, in spite of the March report, Obamacare will not reduce the deficit, so repealing it would not add to the deficit, in spite of today’s report.

The CBO report should be taken with a grain of salt for a few reasons. First, CBO is required to assume that current law will be enacted as written, even in cases where reality couldn’t be further from what is on the books. CBO Director Doug Elmendorf himself makes this clear in the report:"

Morning Bell: Americans Are Fleeing Obama’s Crony Capitalist Economy | The Foundry: Conservative Policy News.: "Today the Bureau of Labor and Statistics released its monthly jobs report showing that the U.S. economy added only 103,000 jobs this December. With the unemployment rate now at 9.4%, this marks the 20th month in a row that the unemployment has been over 9 percent, a post–World War II record. You are going to hear a lot of noise from the White House about how this drop from a 9.8% unemployment rate to 9.4% means the economy is in a strong recovery. This is false. The reality is that the only reason the unemployment rate dropped is because the U.S. labor force decreased by 434,000. More importantly 260,000 Americans dropped out of the labor force entirely. This means that the Obama economy is now driving Americans out of the labor force faster than it is bringing them."

House Majority Releases Report Documenting ObamaCare’s Devastating Impact on American Jobs | Speaker of the House John Boehner | speaker.gov

New Report Finds ObamaCare Will “Eliminate Jobs” & “Exacerbate the Nation’s Dire Fiscal Condition”

Washington (Jan 6)

Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) today joined Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) and several House committee chairmen in releasing a report entitled ObamaCare: A Budget-Busting, Job-Killing Health Care Law. The report, which can be found online here, provides a compelling case for taking immediate action to repeal ObamaCare and replace it with reforms that will lower costs and protect jobs. Boehner released the following statement:

“The evidence is clear: by raising taxes, imposing new mandates, and increasing uncertainty for employers and entrepreneurs, ObamaCare is already destroying jobs in this country. And it will continue to destroy jobs unless we do something about it. The report released today shows how the health care law is making it harder to end the job-killing spending binge that threatens our children’s future. When you look at it dollar by dollar, the numbers just don’t add up. This report presents a very sobering picture, and every lawmaker and taxpayer – no matter where you stand on this critical issue – should take a look at it.

“With nearly 10 percent unemployment and massive debt, the American people want us to focus on cutting spending and growing our economy. That’s why tomorrow the House will take the first steps towards repealing this job-killing health care law and replacing it with reforms that will bring down costs and protect jobs.”

NOTE: Joining Boehner and Cantor on the report are Rep. Dave Camp (R-MI), Chairman of the Committee on Ways & Means; Rep. John Kline (R-MN), Chairman of the Committee on Education & the Workforce; Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Chairman of the Committee on the Budget; and Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI), Chairman of the Committee on Energy & Commerce.

But Ryan gives a short summary of what the gimmicks are and why the outcome will actually be if ObamaCare gets implemented.

I’m sick and tired of them getting away with this crap and it seems like the only way the MSM is going to pay attention is if we up the language. It’s pathetic! The Select Committee for Energy Independence and Global Warming, created by Nancy Pelosi in 2006, has been shuttered under the new Republican leadership. In the final days of the committee, staffers released a report on what the committee accomplished in its brief tenure – an epitaph of sorts.

Tackling issues from the politicisation of climate science to the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon, the committee held 80 hearings and briefings. It played a role in shaping policy for the 2007 energy bill, the 2009 stimulus package (which included $90bn [$58bn] in energy, efficiency, and other green elements), and, of course, the 2009 climate bill (the one that never became law, of course, because the Senate didn't act on it)."

Hoyer: Tea Party People Come From Unhappy Families

Hoyer: Tea Party People Come From Unhappy Families: "On the eve of his demotion by voters from House Majority Leader to House Minority Whip, Rep. Steny Hoyer, D-Md., Hoyer offered this insight into the psychology of the Tea Party movement:

There are a whole lot of people in the Tea Party that I see in these polls who don’t want any compromise. My presumption is they have unhappy families. All of you have been in families: single-parent, two-parents, whatever. Multiple parent and a stepfather. The fact is life is about trying to reach accommodation with one another so we can move forward. That is certainly what democracy is about. So if we are going to move forward compromise is necessary.

So, there you have it. The Tea Party movement is not motivated by, as its members claim, record-high levels of spending and debt by the federal government and the possible economic consequences of that. It is not upset by the various federal bailouts of recent years. It is not riled up by a stagnant economy with 9.8% unemployment. No, they go to rallies because it is easier than going home apparently."

Obama Administration Undermines Israel » Publications » Family Security Matters: "The United States’ withdrawal of its demand that Israel impose a second construction freeze in order to bring the Palestinian Authority (PA) back to the negotiation table does not necessarily indicate that the Obama Administration now sides with Israel. Moreover, America’s latest move will likely result in the Administration’s abstaining from a vote on a much-rumored possible U.N. Security Council resolution recognizing the unilateral declaration of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders."

As my awareness of the world around me grew, from the 1950s into the early 1960s, I was struck again and again by the pride of the men who worked underground in a dangerous profession: Those who avoided work were considered a blot on the community, and being forced onto “the dole” for any reason humiliated not only the immediate family involved, but even distant relations. Men expected to earn their way, taking pride in maintaining their simple “company” houses as best they could, and dressing their wives and children anew each Easter."

Morning Bell: Repeal Doesn’t Increase the Deficit | The Foundry: Conservative Policy News.: "When now-House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D–CA) was sworn in as Speaker on January 4, 2007, the national debt stood at $8.67 trillion. By the time Pelosi surrendered the gavel to Speaker John Boehner (R–OH) yesterday, the national debt stood at $14.01 trillion. At $5.34 trillion, that means Speaker Pelosi added more than $1 trillion in debt per year during her tenure as Speaker. And yet she has the audacity to tell reporters Tuesday: “Deficit reduction has been a high priority for us. It is our mantra, pay-as-you-go.”

Only someone so out of touch with reality that they could claim that “deficit reduction” has been their “highest priority” while simultaneously adding more than $1 trillion a year to the debt could possibly claim that repealing Obamacare would add to the debt. But that is exactly what Pelosi wants us to believe. Also on Tuesday she claimed that repealing Obamacare would do “very serious violence to the national debt and deficit.” Nothing could be further from the truth."

Mr. Boehner, et al., Honor Your Oath! - Alexander's Essays - PatriotPost.US
"If congress can do whatever in their discretion can be done by money, and will promote the General Welfare, the Government is no longer a limited one, possessing enumerated powers, but an indefinite one, subject to particular exceptions." --James Madison
The U.S. Constitution

The new Speaker of the House, John Boehner, took charge of a Republican majority (242-193) Wednesday, proclaiming, "I stand today in awe of our great nation, humbled by the opportunity to defend the Constitution and serve the American people as Speaker of the House. We must restore the House as an open institution that listens to the people and does their will. We must end D.C. rituals that have made it easy to dodge tough decisions, then make the choices necessary to return our economy to prosperity."

For the record, Mr. Boehner, the first obligation of every member of Congress is to defend the Constitution, which authorizes the House to do the will of the people only to the extent that it comports with the plain language of our Constitution. The current state of the central government, bloated to the point of implosion, is the direct result of political machinations doing the bidding of special interest groups, to the great detriment of our Constitution and the Rule of Law it enshrines.

Trial set for firing over use of 'n' word | Philadelphia Inquirer | 01/05/2011: "A federal jury will be asked to decide whether it is acceptable for an African American person, but not a white person, to use the 'n' word in a workplace.

U.S. District Judge R. Barclay Surrick has ruled that former Fox29 reporter-anchor Tom Burlington's lawsuit against the station, claiming a double standard and alleging that he was the victim of racial discrimination, may go to trial. However, Surrick denied Burlington's claim of a hostile work environment.

Burlington, who is white, was fired after using the 'n' word during a June 2007 staff meeting at which reporters and producers were discussing reporter Robin Taylor's story about the symbolic burial of the word by the Philadelphia Youth Council of the NAACP."

World Food Prices Jump to Record on Sugar, Oilseeds - Bloomberg: "World food prices rose to a record in December on higher sugar, grain and oilseed costs, the United Nations said, exceeding levels reached in 2008 that sparked deadly riots from Haiti to Egypt.

An index of 55 food commodities tracked by the Food and Agriculture Organization gained for a sixth month to 214.7 points, above the previous all-time high of 213.5 in June 2008, the Rome-based UN agency said in a monthly report. The gauges for sugar and meat prices advanced to records.

Sugar climbed for a third year in a row in 2010, and corn jumped the most in four years in Chicago. Food prices may rise more unless the world grain crop increases “significantly” in 2011, the FAO said Nov. 17. At least 13 people died last year in Mozambique in protests against plans to lift bread prices."

The US Report - The US Report - Was ObamaCare a linchpin in plans for failed amnesty bill?

The US Report - The US Report - Was ObamaCare a linchpin in plans for failed amnesty bill?: "As Democrats in Congress colluded to shove ObamaCare (technically the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act) down taxpayers’ throats, I repeatedly tried to warn people the bill was a failure on several fronts. I correctly predicted working Americans’ health insurance premiums would not decline. I correctly predicted job losses (those started immediately after the bill was signed—in Sallie Mae, an entity not even related to healthcare).

I correctly predicted increased costs for the government (IRS cops to enforce the individual mandate and continuance of predictable fraud that has plagued Medicare and Medicaid for decades.)

As the bill progressed, I also pointed out that very few in Congress had actually read the thousands of pages in the bill which was in my opinion another step towards socialized medicine lusted for by Dems for many years. A Democrat never met a socialist principle he didn’t like."

Obamacare and the new Congress UPDATE: Link to repeal bill | Radio Vice Online

Obamacare and the new Congress UPDATE: Link to repeal bill | Radio Vice Online: "On Wednesday, the new members of Congress will be sworn in. In the House of Representatives, Republicans will now hold the majority, and Obamacare is at the top of their list of things to do … as in … repeal Obamacare. And so it begins. (Link to repeal bill under the fold)

According to the latest Rasmussen poll, 60% of Americans favor a repeal of Obamacare. I suppose soon to be former Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi (D. Ca.) was correct. Congress had to pass Obamacare before we could see what was in it. The problem is that now that we see what is in it, more and more people realize that they do not like what they see.

So, on Thursday , the day after the new House takes office, the House Rules Committee will meet to advance a bill that will repeal Obamacare. The Rules Committee will vote on this on Friday, and, if the bill is advanced, the full House will vote on the repeal bill on Wednesday, January 12.

Of course, we all know that this is symbolic. Even if the repeal bill was passed by the Senate, President Obama would veto it. And, although two thirds of the House might vote to override the veto, two thirds of the Senate would not.

However, it is a step."

'Propaganda'?! U.S. Congressman Slanders the Constitution - Constitution - Fox Nation

AP File

...

For more than 200 years, Americans have revered the Constitution as the law of the land, but the GOP and tea party heralding of the document in recent months - and the planned recitation on the House floor Thursday - have caused some Democrats to worry that the charter is being misconstrued as the immutable word of God.

"They are reading it like a sacred text," said Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), the outgoing chairman of the House Judiciary subcommittee on the Constitution, civil rights and civil liberties, who has studied and memorized the Constitution with talmudic intensity. Nadler called the "ritualistic reading" on the floor "total nonsense" and "propaganda" intended to claim the document for Republicans. "You read the Torah, you read the Bible, you build a worship service around it," said Nadler, who argued that the Founders were not "demigods" and that the document's need for amendments to abolish slavery and other injustices showed it was "highly imperfect."

"You are not supposed to worship your constitution. You are supposed to govern your government by it," he said.

While the White House may be unafraid of Assange and his website, the impact of the information itself is undeniable. It may be too early to fully assess the damage to national security wrought by Assange, but one thing is clear: government accounts of several key issues and newsworthy events have vastly diverged from the reality revealed in the cables.

For example, the WikiLeaks cables reveal Obama administration duplicity in its prerequisite that an Arab-Palestinian state be established before a solution could be brokered with Gulf Arabs over the Iranian nuclear threat. Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have long maintained the charade that action on Iran was contingent upon Israeli cooperation and concessions to Arab-Palestinians as confidence-building gestures."

Repealing The Job Killing Obamacare | NewsReal Blog

Repealing The Job Killing Obamacare | NewsReal Blog: "With one simple stroke, Representative Eric Cantor (R-Va) has introduced for consideration by the new House of Representatives a 250 word bill repealing the 2000 + page Obamacare law. The bill’s title says it all – the ‘‘Repealing the Job Killing Health Care Law Act.”

Although unlikely to get anywhere in the Democratic-controlled Senate and certain to be vetoed in any event by President Obama, the repeal bill fulfills a major campaign pledge by Republicans during the mid-term campaign. It puts a stake in the ground for the next two years. The American people have had enough of the Pelosi-Reid-Obama big government, out-of-control spending agenda and will be pushing back.

But as Bill O’Reilly counseled on the “O’Reilly Factor” last night, Republicans should not make the same mistake as the Democrats did by concentrating more on the health care issue than on helping to create jobs and cutting wasteful government spending."

As National Debt Obama Ran Up Tops $14 TRILLION (with a T), Obama’s Architect of Economic Disaster Whines About Debt Limit | NewsReal Blog

As National Debt Obama Ran Up Tops $14 TRILLION (with a T), Obama’s Architect of Economic Disaster Whines About Debt Limit | NewsReal Blog: "Common sense generally eludes pro-big government types. Take Austan Goolsbee (pictured above at left with socialist-on-the-loose Barney Frank), chairman of President Obama‘s Council of Economic Advisers. Goolsbee says the world will come to an end if America’s already outrageous $14.3 trillion debt limit isn’t raised. (The national debt just topped $14 trillion, by the way. To be precise, it’s $14,025,215,218,708.52 as of Dec. 31, 2010, according to the U.S. Department of the Treasury.)

Goolsbee told Jake Tapper on the Sunday morning talk show circuit:

Well, look, it pains me that we would even be talking about this. This is not a game. You know, the debt ceiling is not something to toy with. If we hit the debt ceiling, that’s essentially defaulting on our obligations, which is totally unprecedented in American history. The impact on the economy would be catastrophic. That would be a worse financial economic crisis than anything we saw in 2008."

Ending ObamaCare | FrontPage Magazine

Ending ObamaCare | FrontPage Magazine

The knives—and scalpels—are out to cut ObamaCare to ribbons or administer beneficial plastic surgery. Here are developments that can accomplish a coup d’etat or probably bring more rational health care to America.

Even with 87 new Republicans joining the new House of Representatives, a repeal bill has a steep hill to climb. But Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) has said it is important to go through the process even if the Senate rejects such a kill or the President vetoes it. The Rasmussen Poll shows “59 percent of the voters favor repealing it. And it’s important to respond to the voters.”

A Top 10 Of The Left’s Most Ridiculous Moments Last Year | NewsReal Blog

A Top 10 Of The Left’s Most Ridiculous Moments Last Year | NewsReal Blog: "2010. I remember when I was growing up how 2010 sounded so futuristic. And now it’s come and gone. As a kid, I used to think that by the year 2010 we’d have flying cars and that everything would be so space-age. What do we have to show for 2010? The iPad. The Chevy Volt. Those little gel toilet dots that supposedly keep you from having to clean the toilet as often. So much for a wide-open future of technological innovation.

At the same time, during my politically precocious childhood, I was captivated by the seemingly limitless optimism of the Reagan era. I thought there was nothing we couldn’t do as a nation, and I truly believed that we wouldn’t again see anything like the Carter years. I didn’t know how to define it at the time, but I was convinced that what I now know as the Left was defeated."

How to Defeat Obama - Dick Morris and Eileen McGann - Townhall Conservative

How to Defeat Obama - Dick Morris and Eileen McGann - Townhall Conservative: "The pas de deux between the Republican Congress and the Democratic president and Senate can get old pretty quickly. The Republican House passes repeal of Obamacare. The Senate either kills it or Obama vetoes it. The Republican House passes spending cuts. The Senate ... you get the drift.

The only way to break the deadlock and proceed with the urgent task of rolling back the Obama agenda is to use three key confrontations to do so:

-- The debt-limit extension.

-- The demands of states for more bailouts.

-- The 2012 budget.

The need to repeal his radical agenda is ever more apparent as it unfolds further. The legislative enactments were bad enough. But now Obama is using his executive authority to implement anything he couldn't get through even his Democrat-dominated Congress."

More Privacy Lost | Personal Liberty Digest: "A California Supreme Court ruled Jan. 3 that defendants lose their rights to privacy for any items they’re carrying — including electronic devices — when they’re taken into custody.

The 5-2 ruling came in a drug case involving Gregory Diaz who was arrested after police say they watched him make a drug deal. Police searched Diaz’s cell phone and found a text message that linked him to the sale, according to the Court."

Democrats now in minority looking a lot like old GOP as they harp on high unemployment | The Daily Caller - Breaking News, Opinion, Research, and Entertainment

Democrats now in minority looking a lot like old GOP as they harp on high unemployment | The Daily Caller - Breaking News, Opinion, Research, and Entertainment: "Democratic staff passed out a press release to reporters on their way into a briefing with the new House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer Tuesday that read: “Meet the New Republicans – Same as the Old Republicans.”

But on Tuesday at least, House Democrats were the same as the old Republicans.

One day before entering the minority, House Democrats rolled out a line of attack against the new House Republican majority that was almost identical to the one that the GOP used against them over the last two years.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, California Democrat, and other party leaders complained that the GOP is focused on health care instead of jobs, decrying the vote scheduled for next week to repeal President Obama’s health overhaul."

Darrell Issa’s looming letters to the Obama administration | The Daily Caller - Breaking News, Opinion, Research, and Entertainment

Darrell Issa’s looming letters to the Obama administration | The Daily Caller - Breaking News, Opinion, Research, and Entertainment: "Top GOP oversight official California Rep. Darrell Issa resent dozens of letters to the Obama administration over the holidays that received no answer when he sent them the first time as a member of the Republican minority in the House.

The letters cover scores of topics and form a kind of oversight backlog looming over the Obama administration even as the early action in public will come in the form of congressional hearings.

Though many of these letters were ignored over the last two years, the Obama administration will face a new urgency in responding to the missives now that Issa has subpoena power to compel documents and testimony related to the inquiries."
