Man Who Died of Ebola in Nigeria Was American Citizen: Wife - NBC News.com

Man Who Died of Ebola in Nigeria Was American Citizen: Wife - NBC News.com: The Ebola outbreak that has killed hundreds of people in west Africa has claimed its first American; a former Minnesota man working for the Liberian government. Patrick Sawyer, 40, collapsed July 20 in Lagos, Nigeria, after getting off an Arik Air flight from Liberia. He was planning a visit home next month, his wife in Minnesota said. Sawyer was quarantined in a hospital before his death Friday, and Liberia has closed its borders to try and contain the outbreak of the highly infectious disease affecting three West African nations. Sawyer was a consultant for the Liberian Ministry of Finance and lived in the country for work since 2008. His wife and three young daughters — ages 5, 4 and 1 — still reside in the Minneapolis suburb of Coon Rapids, reported NBC affiliate KARE.
