Chicago flights stopped after fire at FAA facility - CNN.com

Chicago flights stopped after fire at FAA facility - CNN.com: A contract employee at a Chicago-area air traffic control center apparently set a fire and tried to kill himself, officials said Friday, shutting the facility and stopping all flights at the world's second-busiest airport.

The bizarre situation resulted in a "ground stop," triggering the cancellation of more than 1,300 flights at O'Hare International Airport and nearby Midway Airport, according to an airline tracking website. An FAA statement said that "flights have begun arriving and departing to and from the Chicago area at a reduced rate." But a separate statement on its website said flights to and from the region wouldn't resume until at least 1 p.m. CT (2 p.m. ET).
