Obama just announced another gun control summit and a push for so-called “smart guns,” which are widely opposed by police because their unreliability can get officers killed. If you’re facing an armed criminal, you’d like to know your gun will be more reliable than your old flip phone.
Obama’s gun control move comes at a particularly inopportune time. While polls show public support for background checks, approval for other gun control laws has been steadily declining.
