Bipartisan gun control compromise fails to nab 60 votes, but survives a first hurdle - The Washington Post: A bipartisan effort to keep guns out of the hands of suspected terrorists failed to garner the 60 votes needed to pass the Senate on Thursday.

The compromise proposal — drafted by Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) — did survive a test vote to keep it alive, defeating a motion to reject it by a 46 to 52-vote margin. But it is unclear whether or when the measure will see an up-or-down vote on the Senate floor.
