Trooper shoots, kills man who attacked him with hatchet in Adirondacks: cops - syracuse.com: A trooper shot and killed a man who attacked him with a hatchet in the Adirondacks, state police said.

The deadly shooting happened Tuesday evening in Arietta, Hamilton County.

Trooper Ryan Mousaw was sent to a home on Old Piseco Road at 8:48 p.m. for a mental illness call, the New York State Police said. At the home, Mousaw spoke with Daniel E. Condon, who lived in the home. Condon, 55, was “exhibiting signs of instability," troopers said.
