Albany’s drug kingpin bailout: Reforming the bail law went astray - New York Daily News: Despite the promise of a new era in the state Legislature, certain things didn’t change. Complex public policy, in this case criminal justice reforms, got forced through in a rushed budget process. And all New Yorkers may soon be less safe as a result.

As New York City Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget Brennan wrote in these pages this week, Albany’s well-intentioned bail overhaul will force the pretrial release of many high-level drug-dealers, which means they may never return for trial.
