By using our oil reserves we are cutting into the nations security blanket. Should OPEC decide to maintain a price gouge on us, after the 6 months is up, we will be at their mercy because we can not afford to heat homes, and operate a military if oil supplies are cut.
OPEC will know this and raise prices further after the 6 months is up on this bill. How much money will you have saved when you have pocketed only 10% of your gas money over the summer months? That is a very high and optomistic percentage as well. It will probably be more on the order of 1 - 2 %.
Is this short sightedness the answer? I think not.
God help us if there is another 9/11 or Katrina we will be seeing prices on crude up around $200.00 a barrel.
