Al-Qaeda documents show surprising formality: "A major haul of documents in Iraq has added to the opinion that al-Qaeda is a regimented organisation which keeps detailed accounts of its members and their involvement in the terrorism.
CNN has reported that the documents, detailing recruits, attacks and casualties, were taken by US-funded Sunni Arab fighters from the hideout of an al-Qaeda leader who was killed in mid-2006.
The haul, from the files of Faris Abu Azzam, included thousands of pages of letters, reports, payroll stubs, lists and hundreds of videos.
The documents showed that while the highest levels of the organisation were run by foreigners, al-Qaeda in Iraq was run by Iraqis, with foreign fighters being used mainly for suicide attacks."
