The Pentagon has said that at least 62 released Guantanamo detainees have rejoined the battle against Americans.
One such example is Said Ali al-Shihri, a former Guantnamo Bay detainee who is now the deputy leader of Al-Qaida’s Yemeni branch. He is suspected of involvement in a deadly bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Yemen’s capital, Sana, in September.
He was released from Guantanamo prison in 2007 after telling officials there that he wanted to return to his native Saudi Arabia and work in his family’s carpet business. When he returned to Saudi Arabia he participated in a rehabilitation program for former jihadists. After finishing the program he went to Yemen to rejoin al-Qaida."
Mr. Obama has decided that perhaps the best course of action would be to send all the terrorists of Guantanamo bay through this farce of a program to "rehabilitate" them. I hope that this would be a reminder to him that in fact these people can not be rehabilitated. That even one can cause more damage in America and to our interests than should be paid by the American people for his ideal of being more liked among the world.
Perhaps The American people and Obama can take a minute and realize that the most outspoken people against us are the ones who want to see us defeated. To be sure there are plenty of Americans who want to see Guantinamo bay closed because they believe it is a hot bed of torture. What must be realized is how overblown the reports of water boarding and torture are. There were a total of 3 cases of "torture".
3 cases.
Who was tortured and why? The people who were tortured were people determined to cause mass civilian and military casualties on America. They had information that they wanted to keep from us that was time sensitive and would result in countless deaths. While they had the knowledge that would allow us to avoid these deaths I think it is prudent to do anything necessary to prevent it. I do not want to see children killed or left without parents because our government is afraid of the negative opinions of our enemies.
The Americans who also think it is wrong to torture these people are what makes this cuontry great. They are the humanitarians who can not imagine hurting children, blowing up cities, releasing radioactive materials in densely populated places. But they must remember that they are not the ones who are being questioned.
