Hamas-Israel battles prove Barack Obama has few options

Hamas-Israel battles prove Barack Obama has few options: "His sweeping promises of change helped elect Barack Obama, but one of those promises is about to collide with reality. His vow to improve America's standing in the world can succeed in many quarters only if he abandons Israel.

Policywise, the change would be deceptively easy. Immediately upon taking office, Obama would simply hint that America will now follow a balanced, evenhanded course in the Mideast. In the interest of peace - and who can be against peace? - he could say he is considering a suspension of aid to Israel until Israel makes peace with all its neighbors."

Bingo. The Left Bank in Paris and the West Bank of the Jordan would join in hailing a changed America. Liberal media would canonize Obama, again, for a daring breakthrough.

Not coincidentally, the change would mark the beginning of the end of Israel. Any incentives its enemies have for accepting its existence would vanish. Under such a policy, peace would come only when Israel was gone.
