Obama Wont Close Guantanamo Bay Right Away (from The Herald ): "President-elect Barack Obama has admitted the Guantanamo Bay detention complex will not close down during his first hundred days in office.
Mr Obama's desire to shut the camp, which has been holding terrorist suspects since October 2001, was a key national security proposal in his bid to become President.
A new president's first hundred days are deemed his most politically crucial, reserved for advancing the policies most important to the administration. The concept comes from Franklin Roosevelt's first hundred days in office where he met with Congress every day to bring forward proposals to fight the depression."
