Early reports indicate eight to twelve were killed. But the New York Times indicates Baitullah Mehsud was not in the camp and the principal target - a senior lieutenant of the Pakistani warlord - escaped.

According to this morning’s Washington Post, “U.S. counterterrorism officials Tuesday dismissed Mehsud’s threat to attack Washington.”"
