Sri Lanka News | Online edition of Daily News - Lakehouse Newspapers: "The fate of LTTE terrorism has been sealed after 30 years and the writing is on the wall for LTTE leader Prabhakaran, said former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Yugoslavia and Hungary and former Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Singapore, President’s Counsel, Razik Zarook yesterday.

”President Rajapaksa stands out as the only President to have defeated LTTE terrorism to unify the country taking control of all territories, thus preserving the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he pointed out.

Zarook was commenting on the event at the Bandaranaike International Airport where all religious leaders welcomed President Mahinda Rajapaksa on his arrival from Jordan.

Zarook said, the event marked the dawning of a terror free era in the country for the first time after 30 years under the leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The religious leaders welcomed the President who gave leadership to wipe out the scourge of terrorism in the country , which many thought impossible, he said.

Asked to explain why the international organisations such as the IMF and some countries of the West and politicians such as Hillary Clinton have displayed a rather melancholy and distasteful attitude to support Sri Lanka’s humanitarian effort on account of various human rights concerns, Zarook said, “ They do this and issue statements in support of the LTTE to appease their Tamil vote bases in certain European electoral districts. They make statements in support of the LTTE under the guise of protecting the “populace.”

These obvious double standards which the European politicians have displayed have never appeared when Muslim were killed in Iraq, Gaza or in Afghanistan.

Indiscriminate bombing and firing of destructive weapons have caused mass destruction to life and property of Muslims. The so called collateral damages have displaced millions of civilians while they kept mum about them.

One must not forget that the Security Forces have rescued over 250,000 civilians while carrying out their fight against the terrorists.

Most of them were held hostage or were used as human shield by the LTTE.

They have rescued these civilians, brought them to camps, gave them food, shelter and healthcare.

They even airlifted the injured by SLAF helicopters. They have continued to do this until the civilian arm of the Government took over the function of accommodating and resettling them, he added.
