Boulder police: City asphalt roller taken on joyride : County News : Boulder Daily Camera
BOULDER, Colo. — Boulder police say people sleeping in the 1000 block of Tantra Park Circle were awoken early Tuesday morning by the sound of a male taking a stolen city asphalt roller for a joyride.
The incident happened at about 2:05 a.m., when two people reported hearing and seeing the heavy equipment rumbling down the road.
Police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley said the witnesses saw a male driving the roller down the street before crashing into the rear of a parked van at West Moorhead Circle.
Both vehicles suffered minor damage, and the suspect ran away when a nearby resident yelled at him.
Huntley said one of the witnesses saw a suspicious male sitting on the equipment hours before the incident, and he thinks the same person stole the vehicle.
Police haven’t made any arrests in the case. Hindering the investigation is the fact that the witnesses could not agree on the male’s description or approximate age, Huntley said.
The roller belongs to the city of Boulder. Jody Jacobson, a spokeswoman for Boulder’s Public Works Department, said the vehicle's ignition is under the hood, and officials believe the steamroller was left in the "on" position.
It was parked in the area for maintenance work along Tantra Park Circle.
