Call 4 Action: Outlook Phishing Scam | Today's TMJ4 - Milwaukee, Wisconsin News, Weather, Sports, WTMJ | Local News

Have you gotten an e-mail asking you to re-configure your Outlook e-mail settings?

If so, watch out. It could be a scam.

How does this scam differ from other e-mail scams that are out there?

The problem with this scam is that it appears to come from Microsoft, a source that it typically trusted.

The e-mail also seems legitimate, because a lot of people use Outlook and they might be tricked into believing that this is just a routine update that is needed to keep their account functioning.

What are the dangers of falling for this scam?

If you click on the link that is included in the e-mail, you could potentially allow full access to your e-mail account, allowing the phishers to view e-mails containing your personal information, and they could also use your account for sending out high volumes of spam.

If you get an e-mail about your Outlook account, what should you do?

• Most importantly, don't reply or click on any links within the e-mail.
• Also, keep in mind, if you get an e-mail that asks you to reconfigure, provide a password, or release personal information, it’s likely to be a scam.

If you are not sure about whether an update or re-configurations are needed, contact your system administrator or Microsoft direct.
