Ever since I attended the last Tea Party, I’ve been trying to keep my ear as close to the political ground as possible. I attended a local grass-roots event that is trying to unseat a liberal congressman in our own district. What we are doing here can be used as a blueprint for Americans to take back our government from the socialist politicians in power at the local, state, and federal levels.

My wife and I attended a “Meet-the-candidate Dinner” in the Alamo City a few weeks ago. I took the drive to the San Antonio Food Bank where it was being held. Meeting other activists was enjoyable. To my surprise I meet a lady with whom I have been corresponding by electronic mail. She is involved with the local chapter of the “San Antonio Tea Party,” and another tea party is schedule for the 4th of July. If you can attend please use this link to register and join the fun!

After mingling, drinks, and hors d’oeuvres, my wife and I--along with 63 other people--made our way to the dinner area. After dinner the main event of the evening began. The candidate stepped up and introduced himself. Mr. Scott Larson, businessman, held our attention as he articulated the four principles that he highlights in his campaign for Congress:

  • Fiscal Responsibility
  • Constitutional Government
  • Accountability
  • Secure Borders

What really stood out in his speech was that he could no longer wait for someone else to come in and save us. We must do it ourselves. That inspiring statement rang so loud in my head as to cause me to briefly lose my train of thought. Many of us in the audience have never been involved in a campaign, have never gone door-to-door, and have never asked people to buy something or to vote for a candidate.

But here I was, and here we all were: the real people, the tea party people that have finally had enough and are not going to take it anymore.

I have come to the conclusion that we cannot wait for someone “else” to come in and save us as far the good government is concerned. The liberals will not listen to us and the conservatives just want us to become more moderate which is detriment to the voters and our country. We are going to have to do it ourselves. It’s time to act, and the future of our government really is in our hands.
