CONGRESS IS ABOUT TO CUT OUR NATION’S
MISSILE DEFENSE PROTECTIONS – LEAVING US
MORE VULNERABLE TO A NUCLEAR MISSILE ATTACK.
WE NEED YOUR HELP TODAY!!
by Lisa Piraneo, Director of Government Relations
Dear AMERICA,
PLEASE CAREFULLY READ THIS URGENT LEGISLATIVE ACTION ALERT AND PASS IT ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW!
This Legislative Action Alert is the first of two that you will be receiving this week. They both are regarding an extremely important issue – Missile Defense – especially in light of the ongoing news out of North Korea and Iran. They both are regarding legislative action that is currently taking place in the U.S. Congress. Please be sure to read each Alert carefully and to do your part to ensure that our nation is protected against the threat of a nuclear missile attack.
As the Obama administration proposes cutting missile defense spending – and thus additional missile defense deployment – Iran and North Korea are responding to President Obama’s various “olive branches” by moving full speed ahead with their nuclear programs.
The most recent example of this was just a few weeks ago, when North Korea launched a Taepo-dong 2 missile on June 4th, which entered Japanese airspace. According to military analysts, Taepo-dong 2 missiles have the capability to reach Alaska, Hawaii, or the Western United States. Since that launch North Korea conducted an underground nuclear weapon test of a bomb the size of the bomb we dropped on Hiroshima. And just last Friday, Fox News reported that “U.S. intelligence officials have warned President Obama and other senior American officials that North Korea intends to respond to the looming passage of a U.N. Security Council resolution this week – condemning the communist country for its recent nuclear and ballistic missile tests – with another nuclear test.”
Iran continues full speed ahead with its drive to develop nuclear weapons. What’s more, the type of missile launch testing Iran has been conducting indicates that Iran is fully aware of the impact an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack would have on the United States electrical power grid, and is planning and preparing accordingly.
The good news is we can protect our nation by developing comprehensive missile defense systems to intercept and eliminate nuclear missiles targeted at us. A robust missile defense could save thousands, if not millions of American lives. Indeed, the very presence of a robust missile defense system would likely deter countries like Iran and North Korea from ever launching a nuclear missile against us.
The unbelievable news is that at this very critical moment for America’s national security, the Obama Administration and many in Congress appear intent to cut $1.4 billion from the very program that is designed to protect us! This is a crippling cut to this program, and with all the billions our government is throwing at one bailout after another, we shake our heads in disbelief at this shortsightedness.
This is why we need your help and we need it NOW, because without your help, these cuts to our missile defense program WILL happen. Make no mistake about it. Your voice will count.
This week, the House Armed Services Committee will be working on H.R. 2647, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2010. Unfortunately, funding for our nation’s missile defense system is on the chopping block. The Committee is expected to vote on missile defense funding levels TOMORROW, Tuesday, June 16th. Therefore, it is critical that a handful of Members who sit on this important Committee hear from our members all across the country TODAY!
AMERICA GRASSROOTS ADVOCATE!
Below are 11 influential members of Congress who serve on the House Armed Services Committee and who NEED TO HEAR FROM YOU. Please, take just a few minutes out of your day TODAY to call as many of these Representatives as you can, and respectfully but with resolve, tell them:
- Congress must restore the cuts to missile defense and fully fund our nation’s missile defense program.
- The threat from Iran and North Korea is real and imminent.
- The need for America to defend her people hasn’t changed and it is our elected leaders’ constitutional responsibility to keep us safe.
Even if you only have the time to call one of these Members of Congress, please make your call TODAY and say: “Please support any amendment to the Defense Bill that restores funds for Ballistic Missile Defense – especially ones that help the GMD system. This system protects the homeland from North Korean and Iranian Ballistic Missiles.” These Members need to hear from you so they’ll know there are thousands and thousands of Americans who are concerned about congressional plans to make America more vulnerable to nuclear missile attack!
