Political Mavens » Journalistic Integrity? ABC-ya Later

Political Mavens » Journalistic Integrity? ABC-ya Later

The ABC television network has decided to drop the apparently over-burdensome pretense of being an unbiased news source. Next Wednesday, they’ll be broadcasting from inside the White House, presenting America with president Barack Obama’s vision for nationalizing health care. Dissenting voices? Off limits.

Again, like so many other issues in which liberals and their media lackeys feign indignation over charges of a double-standard, a simple comparison is all that is necessary to blow a hole in their defenses: imagine Fox News ( the “evil” news network) broadcasting a “Save Social Security” special from the Bush White House, and telling Democrats they would get no air time for dissenting viewpoints–even if they were willing to buy time for advocacy ads.

Is there even a scintilla of a doubt what liberals’ reaction would be? Would it be hard to imagine the New York Times editorializing about the “fascist relationship” between a TV news organization and the government? How about Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews and the rest of the Obama-bots foaming about “the end of a free press as we know it?” Wouldn’t every other left-leaning news organization be pounding this story–front and center every day–as “damning proof” that the Constitution is being “shred to bits?”

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: despite everything you’ve seen or heard for decades–courtesy of our “unbiased” media–the greatest threat to individual liberty and freedom comes from the left, not the right. It comes from the people who talk about “diversity” and “tolerance” but brook no disagreement whatsoever with their version of it. It comes from the people who would take the greatest wealth-producing engine in the history of the world and turn it into a sclerotic, Euro-style, basket case.

It comes from the people who think it’s perfectly acceptable for a major news organization to set up shop in the White House, as long as it’s their point of view—absent any dissent–that’s being disseminated.

Make no mistake: this stunt will backfire. Maybe not right away, but slowly and surely. Many Americans who have long suspected much of the media was in the tank for the left, now know their suspicions were completely justified. In that respect, ABC has done the nation a great favor. Any future claims of even-handedness or journalistic integrity will be met with well-deserved scorn by Americans who still believe in both. The bet here is that constitutes a sizable majority.

Lastly, my favorite part of the whole episode: ABC’s descent into the abyss was self-orchestrated. They could have broadcast the very same special from their studios and no one would have cared. That they willfully chose to display their arrogance, their obsequiousness towards this administration, and their contempt for a large segment of the “non-Kool-aid drinking” public is just too delicious. They have sown the seeds of their future irrelevance.

Even “Desperate Housewives” won’t save them.
