Suicide Bomb Attack On Islamabad Police Station | World News | Sky News

A suicide bomber has blown himself up at a police station in the Pakistan capital Islamabad, killing one person.

Senior police official Bin Yameen said three other people have been injured.

One is said to be in a serious condition.

The bomber detonated his device in the building's courtyard after being shot by officers as he ran towards them.

The attack occured at 8.30pm local time. The police station housed an emergency call centre.

"It was a suicide attack," said police officer Ihsan Ullah.

"A man walked up to a police helpline centre, the security tried to stop him but he exploded himself, killing one and injuring three others."

Waquar Shah, who was on duty at the police station, said a man wearing a heavy jacket was spotted as he jumped over the centre's courtyard wall.

"He jumped in from the rear wall, then ran toward the offices," Shah said.

"One of our guys opened fire on him and he fell and blew up."

There have been a series of bombings and attacks in Pakistani cities recently.

They have been blamed on Taliban militants in response to a month-old military operation to oust the Taliban from the Swat Valley in the north west of the country.
