Boehner Statement on What the President ISN’T Saying to the American People About Health Care Today | Republican Leader John Boehner

Washington, Jul 29 - House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement today after news outlets reported that President Obama will be using a new, eight-point argument in favor of Democrats’ government takeover of health care at events in North Carolina and Virginia. The new argument specifically omits some of the President’s previous talking points, and fails to address the real and serious concerns the American people have about the Democrats’ legislation:

“This new sales pitch is more notable for what it doesn’t say than what it does. What happened to the promises that their proposal ‘won’t increase health care costs,’ ‘won’t add to the deficit,’ ‘won’t increase taxes on middle-class families and small businesses,’ ‘won’t put government between doctors and patients,’ ‘won't force anyone to lose their current health coverage,’ ‘won't kill jobs,’ ‘won’t promote taxpayer-funded abortion,’ or ‘won’t cut Medicare’? The American people deserve more from their President than sidestepping every major criticism of his plan and failing to address any of the issues that have stalled the bill in Congress.

“It’s time to scrap the Democrats’ legislation and work together on get real, bipartisan health care reform that will lower costs and expand access for the American people, and House Republicans stand ready to join in that effort.”

NOTE:
A new National Public Radio poll released this morning shows that “when asked about the plan now moving through Congress, a plurality of 47 percent was opposed and 42 percent said they were in favor, based on what they had heard about the plan so far.”
