AP whitewashes 50-count felony indictment of democrat on The Patriot Room: "Former New Mexico Secretary of State Rebecca Vigil-Giron gets the following treatment from AP:
Vigil-Giron and three other people were indicted Wednesday for alleged fraud, money laundering and other crimes related to the use of federal money in a voter education campaign.
Not bad. But let's look at a local paper for the meat:
She and others indicted — lobbyists Joseph Kupfer and Elizabeth Kupfer and contractor Armando Gutierrez — each face 50 [felony] counts including money laundering, fraud, soliciting or receiving kickbacks and tax evasion. They’re accused of bilking taxpayers out of millions of dollars between 2004 and 2006 by falsifying invoices to the secretary of state’s office.
Now we're talking.
Oh, and AP forgot to mention that she's a democrat. And while we're at it, since they would for a pub, they failed to mention that she ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 2008.
Well, let's be fair to AP. They did issue a longer piece that seemingly only the Silver City Daily Press picked up on. They get more specific, but still fail to identify her as a democrat. And evrn more interesting, spend the majority of the piece spouting her defense:"
