Obama defends cost of health-care overhaul - MarketWatch: "WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- President Barack Obama on Friday defended his proposed health-care overhaul before a mostly friendly town-hall crowd in Montana, telling attendees that there's 'nothing wrong' with making wealthier Americans partly fund it so poorer residents can be covered.
'I can't cover another 46 million people for free,' Obama said in response to a question about how he and congressional Democrats will pay for setting up a public health-insurance option and insurance exchanges.
Obama said about two-thirds of a proposed overhaul can be paid for by eliminating subsidies to insurance companies and other things. But he said the other third 'wouldn't come on the backs of the middle class' and outlined a proposal to lower deductions wealthier Americans can take as a way of paying for some of the health-care reforms he wants."
