The Most Moronic Media Statements of the Week: Fake Jobs, Al Gore’s Bogus Science, and “Gay Icon” Levi Johnston « NewsReal Blog:
And The Winner Is:
Recovery.gov wins NewsReal’s Most Moronic Statement of the Week Award. The White House’s own web site actually claimed that in Arizona’s 9th Congressional District, 30 jobs have been saved or created with just $761,420 in federal stimulus spending. There’s one problem, though: There is no 9th Congressional District in Arizona. Oops. Oh well, at least it was a transparent misstatement.
RUNNER-UP:
Father Earth, Al Gore places a close second. On the NBC ‘Tonight Show’ last Thursday, Gore shared his scientific analysis of geothermal energy with an eager audience. His facts, alas, were not only misstated, they were downright false:
“People think about geothermal energy – when they think about it at all – in terms of the hot water bubbling up in some places, but two kilometers or so down in most places there are these incredibly hot rocks, ’cause the interior of the earth is extremely hot, several million degrees, and the crust of the earth is hot …”
For the record, the interior of the earth is not ’several million degrees.’ All science to date indicates the earth’s core is between 4000°C to 8000°C. The media yawned and Al Gore, once again, remained unchallenged.
