The New Media Journal | Hoffman: Democrats, Unions, ACORN Stole Election

The New Media Journal | Hoffman: Democrats, Unions, ACORN Stole Election: "In a stunning note to supporters, Conservative candidate Doug Hoffman now claims that Democrats stole the 23rd Congressional District election by tampering with ballots.

He also accuses unions and the community activist group ACORN of conspiring to alter results in the 11-county district by “tampering with democracy.”

Hoffman made the serious allegations in a letter Wednesday, asking supporters to donate money and help him make sure every vote is counted in the undecided race.

“Recent developments leave me to wonder who is scheming behind closed doors, twisting arms and stealing elections from the voters of NY-23,” Hoffman said in the letter.

As of this morning, Hoffman trails Democrat Bill Owens by about 2,900 votes with six counties still tabulating absentee ballots. Most of the counties say they expect to finish by the end of the week...

In the letter, Hoffman wrote that he was revoking his concession from election night, a move that will not mean much unless he formally contests the election results with the state Board of Elections.

The Lake Placid accountant said his early concession was based on unofficial counts that had him trailing Owens by 5,335 votes with 93 percent of the districts reporting. It turned out the figure was incorrect because of reporting errors.

The biggest mistake was found in Oswego County, the county where Hoffman had polled strongest. The county’s unofficial results showed Hoffman leading by only 500 votes with 93 percent of the vote in on election night. Since then, re-canvassing shows Hoffman with a 1,748 vote lead."
