Thanksgiving With Bill Ayers: Fugitive Days and Obama’s Plan for Afghanistan « NewsReal Blog: "Books are the mind’s feast even when they are controversial. While Americans gathered to thank God for our beloved country, I spent much of Thanksgiving seeing America through the eyes of a man who detests her. William Ayers, author of Fugitive Days, is a professor at the University of Chicago. His resume includes organizing violent anti-War riots in the 1960s and 70s and, as part of the militant Weather Underground, helping to bomb the Pentagon.

“Everything was perfect the day I bombed the Pentagon. It was ground zero for war and conquest, organizing headquarters of a gang of murdering thieves, a colossal stain on the planet, a hated symbol everywhere around the world.”

The level of Barack Obama’s connection to Ayers and his wife, Bernadine Dohrn, is bitterly contested. More important than their social connections is the fact that, as a young activist in Chicago, Barack received his ideological orientation and philosophical formation in the Marxist environment Ayers and Dohrn helped establish in the community organizing network. The President has openly surrounded himself with advisors who are connected to Ayers or his Communist world view. Reading Fugitive Days was like finding the intellectual blueprint for Obama’s anti-War on Terror."
