Corporal Szuba was en route to assist in the pursuit when the drunk driver crossed the center line of Fir Street, at McKinley Avenue, to pass a stopped vehicle. The suspect's car sideswiped Corporal Szuba's patrol car, causing Corporal Szuba and Ricky to suffer fatal injuries. Corporal Szuba had served with the Mishawaka Police Department for eight years.
