Obama relaxes demands on Gitmo (OneNewsNow.com): "The retired naval officer who commanded the USS Cole when it was hit by terrorists in 2000 hopes that recent congressional action will convince President Obama to permanently abandon his plan to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility in Cuba -- otherwise known as 'Gitmo.'
As previously reported, in November President Barack Obama admitted that he could not meet the January 2010 deadline he set soon after taking office for closure of the facility in Cuba, saying that things move slower in Washington than he expected. Obama also said he will not set a new deadline for closing Guantanamo Bay, but that he does expect the facility to shut down sometime this year."
