Remember those April 2008 remarks Candidate Obama made at a California fund raiser?
- “You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”
Word comes now that POTUS is to undergo a celebrity makeover and emerge reborn as a man of the people. The Associated Press and The Politico, of course, are helping to carry the “Populist Obama” meme.
Just keep in mind, though, that nearly a year ago, in March 2009, at least one commenter to MSNBC’s First Read pointed out that the week before Obama was a socialist, “this week a populist.”
So. Is this new twist in the road believable? Just follow the breadcrumbs — and we let Charles Krauthammer and the Fox News All Stars on last night’s show have the final word. Make up your own mind.
