This news report addresses a situation in which a California-based company, Universal Placement International bilked school teachers from the Filipines out of thousands of dollars in illegal fees to find them teaching jobs in the United States – specifically in Louisiana. Clearly these teachers were exploited. It is my hope that those who are ultimately found responsible for this outrage will face severe consequences – to punish them and to send a message to the many others who are, no doubt, engaging in comparable malfeasance even as you read my commentary."
