Freedom is the Issue: "My President, his party and advocates have cast aspersions about tea partiers and townhallers from the beginning. At first they ignored them, and then there were attempts to marginalize them by questioning their intellect, knowledge or stability. These have all failed because outlets like Fox News and talk radio exposed these charges as the dishonest smears they were. With these unsavory strategic communication failures, you would think that our President along with his supporters would respect the movement and hear the message: you would be wrong.

After the passage of the health care bill, President Obama decided to convince the American people that the reform was necessary, even beneficial because it would lower cost and solve the “problem” of the uninsured. Side note, aren’t you supposed to do that before you pass it? Nevertheless, his campaigning has resulted in more opposition; the more we hear, the less we like. Rather than address the specific concerns of the law e.g. constitutionality, costs and process, he has chosen to demonize the group that raised awareness. He now knows: America is not a fan of his far left, socialist agenda (yes, it is socialist). So he has to take the focus off of policies such as financial reform, cap and trade and immigration by demonizing the messengers. This is not only an odious tactic, it is very dangerous.

President Clinton’s latest remarks are part of a strategy of ascribing responsibility of the OKC terrorist bombing for political gain. This plan is outlined by Byron York in the Washington Examiner. Attributing a radical terrorist act in any way to a movement that has opposed the majority party’s big government agenda is not only a tremendous insult but grossly irresponsible. The possible impact of this strategy: It could be used to silent dissent (with or without a violent incident). Regardless, it is the wrong message. People are responsible for themselves; their own words and actions. This individual responsibility is one that comes with freedom. Shirking it leads to the loss of liberty."
