What?! Justice Richard Goldstone has some ugly secrets, hidden somewhere in the dark closets of his impeccable past?! Impossible! After all, as we remember, his professional resume was so flawless and his biography was so clean that 13 months ago the United Nations sent this soft-spoken South African jurist to the Gaza Strip to investigate war crimes, allegedly committed during the latest Gaza conflict.
So, what kind of “dirty secrets” could be found in his pure biography? When Justice Goldstone produced his report (full, by the way, of sympathy toward people of Gaza, widely known for their peace loving habits), it became obvious that his soul was benevolent, his mind was fair, his heart was compassionate, and his hands were clean. Almost instantly, he became a darling of the international Left, including, of course, the American liberals.
Well, I know nothing definitive about Richard Goldstone’s soul, mind, and heart, but having read the May 6, 2010 edition of The Jerusalem Post, I suddenly found that his supposedly clean hands are a bit dirty. To be precise, they are covered in rivulets of blood. No, not blood in a metaphorical sense, but the real blood of 28 people who were sentenced to death by Justice Goldstone in the 1980s, in full accordance with the laws of the South African apartheid regime. That embarrassing information was reportedly unearthed by two journalists from the Israeli daily Yediot Aharonot. (I cannot help emphasizing at this point that thankfully there are still some real journalists in the world, unlike our Frank Rich, Chris Matthews, Maureen Dowd, and hundreds of other pseudo-journalists populating the liberal media cabal.)
