On Wednesday, the president fired General Stanley McChrystal from his position as commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan because of his scornful remarks about administration officials in a Rolling Stone magazine interview.
Obama felt the interview "undermines the civilian control of the military that is at the core of our democratic system." He sacked McChrystal after summoning him from Afghanistan for an Oval Office meeting, where the president explained that he welcomes "debate" among his team, but he "won't tolerate division."
