Leaders of other countries are looking at America in vain for its leadership while America alienates its allies, former Alaska governor Sarah Palin said.
The 2008 Republican candidate for vice president spoke to a group of about 1,100 Saturday at Five Points Washington's "Lessons From Leaders" speakers series. Below are more points from the speech:
"I see the people around the globe, based on what we're hearing from leaders of other countries, they are looking at us in vain for our leadership. Some leaders are vacillating and even alienating our allies," Palin said.
"This isn't a time when we want to poke an ally like Israel in the eye. We want to make sure that our allies know we are safe and secure and we will share our security with them."
She criticized Congress for its approval of a health care reform bill. "We didn't want it, we couldn't afford it and it made no sense, (Congress) did it anyway. We need to start telling them louder and louder (that) just because you can, doesn't mean you should."
