Ohio “Stimulus” Tax Dollars Create Jobs… in El Salvador | John Boehner | Fighting for Freedom. Making a Difference. | JohnBoehner.com: "Ohio “Stimulus” Tax Dollars Create Jobs… in El Salvador

When Democrats rammed the trillion-dollar “stimulus” into law, they said it would create new jobs … they just didn’t say those jobs would be in El Salvador. While American taxpayers face a $13 trillion debt and Ohio struggles with a double-digit unemployment rate, millions of tax dollars have been used to pay workers in Central America under the so-called “stimulus.”

Congressman Boehner and fellow Republicans are demanding accountability, noting that the episode highlights Governor Strickland’s unwillingness to establish an independent, bipartisan review board overseeing the use of “stimulus” dollars. Here’s the story:

OHIO “STIMULUS” TAX DOLLARS SHIPPED OVERSEAS ON STRICKLAND’S WATCH

>> “A Texas company hired to administer Ohio’s popular appliance rebate program used hundreds of workers in El Salvador to process applications and to answer customers’ calls. State officials learned of the arrangement on the day the stimulus program began in March, after a customer asked a call center employee where he was located and then complained to the state.” (Associated Press, 8/1/10)

>> “Many Americans may be disappointed with President Barack Obama’s ’stimulus’ program – but hundreds of residents of El Salvador like it very much. It has provided them – not the U.S. citizens it was intended to help – with jobs. … There, it has provided hundreds of new jobs, according to a published report. … Out-of-work Ohioans ought to be furious.” (Wheeling Intelligencer, 8/3/10)

>> “Borrowing money from future generations to fund dubious stimulus projects is bad policy. The growing national debt has Americans deeply worried and concerned about the leadership being provided by President Obama and Democrats in Congress. ‘Rebate-Gate’ may become a factor in Ohio’s governor’s race this fall. With Ohio’s unemployment rate averaging more than 10 percent, Strickland and state officials would be better served helping Ohio businesses create jobs here, rather than ‘accidentally’ shipping them overseas.” (Lorain Morning Journal, 8/3/10)

BOEHNER AND OHIO REPUBLICANS DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY

>> “House Republican Leader John Boehner said in a released statement, ‘Gov. Strickland owes Ohio families asking ‘Where are the jobs?’ an explanation as to why stimulus funds allocated by his administration were used to create jobs in Central America, and why he has repeatedly refused to establish an independent, bipartisan panel to prevent this misuse of taxpayer dollars.’” (Youngstown Vindicator, 7/30/10)

>> “‘The White House, with the support of Governor Strickland, pledged that the ’stimulus’ would create jobs immediately in our state, yet more than 100,000 Ohioans have lost their jobs since this trillion-dollar bill was enacted,’ Congressman Boehner said in the release.” (NBC 4, 7/29/10)

We already know the “stimulus” hasn’t worked for Ohio families and workers. According to analysis by the House Ways & Means Committee, Ohio has lost more than 131,000 jobs since the “stimulus” was enacted. That’s why Boehner wants to cut government spending and help small businesses here in Ohio create new jobs – not raise taxes, add to the debt, or expand government.
