Taliban have spies everywhere, warns army expert after Cameron was almost shot down by insurgent rocket | Mail Online: "A former British commander in Afghanistan today claimed that the Taliban had a 'very extensive' network of spies after it emerged David Cameron's helicopter was nearly shot down by a rocket.

Colonel Richard Kemp described how insurgents had infiltrated almost every level of the country's armed forces.

'Sometimes we underestimate the Taliban's sophistication in intelligence gathering,' he said, adding the group had sources in 'many places'.

These included the Afghan security forces and 'even in military bases.'

However, Col Kemp told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that it was essential the Prime Minister carried out visits to the country.

'You can't hide behind security to the exclusion of all else. He has to be out and about, he has to be seen,' he said."
