Occupy Winnipeg tent burns down

Occupy Winnipeg tent burns down: MONTREAL - A large tent in the Occupy Winnipeg compound in Memorial Park burned down early Friday.

No was injured, but protester Stephen Evans said it appeared to him the fire was deliberately set, likely with kerosene fuel.

"This was a hate crime," he said. "These things happen everywhere. People get mad and they burn things down."

Off-duty firefighter Derek Balcaen, who with a co-worker was first on the scene, said it appeared to him the fire was started by a kerosene lantern that had been knocked over.

Protesters said the fire will not dissuade them from continuing their camp throughout the winter.
