ATF Requests Records Of Gun Owners  | Front Porch Politics

ATF Requests Records Of Gun Owners  | Front Porch Politics: Apparently Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) agents have been visiting gun shops in Alaska and asking for firearms sales records. This has caused many to wonder if the agency is building a database of gun owners in the state.

Alaska Representative Don Young met with ATF agents and raised his concerns about what he had been hearing in this regard.

“During today’s meeting Deputy Director Brandon assured me that this is not an accepted practice at the ATF and that they are looking to remedy the situation to ensure it, or anything like it, never happens again in the future,” Young said.

ATF Deputy Director Tom Brandon sought to assure Young that, “ATF has never maintained a database of lawful firearms owners; is not permitted by law to create and maintain such a database; and has no intention whatsoever of collecting any information for such a database.”
