In an if-you-were-in-charge exercise, students at Britain’s famed Eton College were asked how they would justify British military forces shooting unarmed British civilians in case of social unrest.

The question was part of an exam given to students hoping to win one of fourteen King’s Scholarships to the famous school.

The harsh question has raised criticism in Britain and across the world.

The question was part of a series of questions meant to elicit responses on the subjects of “cruelty and clemency.”
