The most fundamental change Obama could make is the undoing of the US Constitution. Obama is setting so many anti-Constitutional precedents that, eventually, he hopes, the Democrats could argue that these precedents have lasted long enough to be accepted above what is written in the Constitution.
In other words, Obama believes that, for Democrats to rid themselves of Constitutional constraints, all they must do is to undermine it enough, rather than formally repeal it. And many rights, such as your right to defend yourself, will be redefined as privileges that can be easily canceled.
