According to the Associated Press, the former police captain won the Democrat primary for mayor of New York City. He beat out the likes of "early favorite" and 2020 presidential contender Andrew Yang as well as former members of the NYC political establishment Maya Wiley and Kathryn Garcia. Meanwhile at CNN, the primary came down to a narrow victory given how the voting results were calculated. The June 22 results had Adams with a comfortable 10-point lead, but by the time the June 30 updated results came out, it was down to a 2.2 percent lead over Garcia.
