NFL star Ray Rice’s punishment outraged many. Instead of standing trial for allegedly assaulting his then-fiancee, Rice entered a counseling program.
For all the unfairness and hypocrisy that Rice supporters blame on the league, it’s the legal system that touches many more people, specifically diversion programs like the one of which he took advantage.
The Rice altercation and the arrest of Shaneen Allen took place in the same jurisdiction with the same prosecutor but may have very different outcomes.
