Like most pension scandals, PA teachers’ fund has a union problem | Opinion - pennlive.com: As the famous literary detective Sherlock Holmes once said, “The gentlest tremors of the edges of the web remind me of the foul spider which lurks in the center.” He probably wasn’t talking about the Pennsylvania Public School Employees’ Retirement System (PSERS), but then again, he wasn’t talking about a spider, either. In PSERS’ case, the not-so-gentle tremors are the recently confirmed FBI investigation into possible criminal activity and the 95,000-plus teachers who must now pay higher contributions into their pension fund after the PSERS Board of Trustees acknowledged a shortfall in the fund’s investment returns earlier this year.
